In Inuit mythology 'Amarok' is the name of a gigantic wolf, said to devour anyone foolish enough to hunt alone at night.
According to the legend Amarok who was a lone wolf, came to the people when the Caribou was so plentiful that the herd had begun to weaken and fall sick. Amarok came to prey upon the frail and ill Caribou.
